ABOUT ODISHA FILM SOCIETY

WHERE ROOTS MEET CINEMA

Odisha Film Society (OFS) is a cultural collective dedicated to discovering, nurturing, and celebrating independent visual storytellers across all 30 districts of Odisha.

Evolution of Odia Storytelling — from ancient oral traditions to modern 35mm cinema
Our Mission

Building a Self-Sustaining Independent Cinema Ecosystem

Odisha has a 2,000-year legacy of visual storytelling — from the prehistoric rock paintings of Bikramkhol to the living Saura tribal murals and Pattachitra scrolls.

The Odisha Film Society exists to bridge this indigenous narrative heritage with contemporary filmmaking tools. We provide the mentorship, equipment access, community screenings, and industry connections necessary to take Odia independent cinema to national and global stages.

CORE PILLARS

Three Pillars of the Movement

How we carry the cinema movement beyond a single festival week into a permanent cultural institution.

01

Cultural Heritage Preservation

Archiving Living Arts on Celluloid

From the sacred murals of the Saura and Kondh tribes to ancient Pattachitra scrolls and rural folk performance — we believe cinema is the ultimate modern archive to document Odisha's indigenous heritage.

02

Democratizing Filmmaking

Cinema Across All 30 Districts

Film is no longer confined to major studio capitals. Through mobile filmmaking workshops and grassroots campus chapters, we empower every youth with a story to direct.

03

Pathways to Feature Films

From Short Films to Big Screens

Short films are the fertile testing ground for visionary directors. OFS provides intensive script labs, producer pitch matchmaking, and feature incubation to build sustainable cinematic careers.

YEAR-ROUND INITIATIVES

Beyond the Festival Week

ISFFO is the annual catalyst. These standing programs keep the movement active throughout the year.

Monthly Screening Chapters

Standing calendar of curated world cinema and Odia independent films across rotating city venues.

Screenwriting & Direction Labs

Intensive multi-week cohorts guided by working industry directors, writers, and technicians.

Women in Cinema Initiative

Dedicated grants, technical mentorship, and networking circles for female filmmakers across Odisha.

Permanent Digital Film Archive

A public, institutional digital repository preserving Odisha's historical cinema records and master interviews.

A Note on the Theme

The setting is Tribal. The cinema is limitless.

Our website’s visual language and décor draw inspiration from the rich tribal heritage, art, and cultural identity of Odisha. However, the festival itself remains open to every story, every style, and every cinematic voice.

The design celebrates our roots; the festival celebrates cinema without boundaries.
